ABOUT

Michael Horn is an attorney, entrepreneur and technologist, based out of Brooklyn, New York.

Three years into a legal career on Wall Street, Mike admitted to himself that he liked building things - preferably businesses that involve technology and creativity. He taught himself to code in Ruby on Rails and got to work building web applications for foodies. Today Mike operates two startups, while also providing legal counsel to company founders and investors.

In November 2010, Mike built and launched Craft Coffee. With a Craft Coffee subscription, you can sample the best coffees from artisan roasters around the country, delivered to your door monthly. Craft Coffee has been featured in the Wall Street Journal ("Through a meticulous tasting process, each month Craft Coffee selects standouts from three of the country's top boutique roasters and offers them as an artisanal greatest-hits package."), Tasting Table ("Your morning just found more glory."), The Next Web ("Subscription service startups are the hot new thing."), Sprudge ("Craft Coffee's the New Hotness"), Martha Stewart's Everyday Food, Bon Appetit, Saveur, Techcrunch, Serious Eats and more. Prior to Craft Coffee, Mike built and launched WhatIsFresh.com, which helps New Yorkers connect with local farmers and markets in New York City. In December 2009, the New York Times wrote that "WhatIsFresh.com is the best guide to what is available in which Greenmarkets." In January 2010, Tasting Table wrote that "Horn's site brilliantly makes sense of the dozens of Greenmarkets scattered around Manhattan and Brooklyn."

Mike is an active member of the New York startup community. He was selected by Charlie O'Donnell of First Round Capital as a 2011 NextNY Fellow, a program designed to support New York's startup community leaders. Michael has spoken about entrepreneurship as an invited guest on a Columbia Business School panel. He has been featured in WeAreNYTech. Mike is also the founder of the New York Coffee Tasting Meetup.

When he's not building Internet startups, Mike provides legal counsel to emerging growth companies and investors. He began his career as an attorney at a leading New York City law firm, representing major investment banks and large corporations in debt-financed transactions. Mike graduated with a J.D. from Cornell Law School, where he was a Notes Editor on the Cornell International Law Journal.

Mike received a B.A. with Honors in social sciences from the University of Arizona, where he graduated magna cum laude. His thesis analyzed the economic and social effects of 9/11 on Arizona's largest border community, and was published as part of a larger study. While at the UofA, Mike founded the Arizona Student Recycling Association, which worked closely with university and city leaders to green the university campus and surrounding area.
